ASA Certified Instruction
& Adventure Sailing

ASA Instructional Courses offer full certification for successful completion.  Adventure Sails combine ASA instruction with a more comprehensive cruising and voyaging experience.

ASA CERTIFIED INSTRUCTION

For those who would like formal instruction, and the certification that goes with it, Captain Tim is also an American Sailing Association (ASA) instructor. He started teaching sailing in 1993, on San Francisco Bay. The American Sailing Association is the largest professional sailing instruction organization in the United States. Its diverse and highly developed curriculum takes beginners through all stages of sailing instruction, from the most basic to the most advanced.  Jet Stream offers courses in Bareboat Chartering, Cruising Catamarans, Coastal Navigation, and Advanced Coastal Cruising for sailors with some experience. These courses can be designed into your Fully Crewed, or Captain Only charter.  For those who choose to take the relevant examinations and pass them, ASA Certification is awarded.

It is not necessary for all members of a charter party to participate in the ASA instruction, but all should be aware that the curriculum requires a considerable amount of the students’ and the Captain’s time and attention including specific drills and activities. As such, the instructional program will have a considerable bearing on the agenda and itinerary of the charter, although every effort will be made to afford Jet Stream’s full range of activities to the non-participants.

Please check at info@jetstreamsailing.com for appropriate fees for instruction and testing, and the prerequisites for the specific courses you would like to take.

ADVENTURE SAILING

Alth
ough Jet Stream’s ASA instructional courses are generally offered as supplements to our regular Fully Crewed or Captain Only Charters, from time to time we offer even more adventurous programs.  These programs are typically built around the Catamaran or Advanced Coastal Cruising courses.  Adventure Sails include multi-day passages among islands and countries, typically crossing national borders. They may begin and end in different ports. Adventure Sails are ideal for the sailor who is looking to sample the true cruising experience, or who is seriously preparing to embark upon a cruising life. They include much wisdom accumulated by Captain Tim in over twenty years of cruising, outfitting, and living aboard various sailboats.  This includes discussions on safety, on boat and equipment choices, on things that work and things that don’t. These Adventures are appropriate for either multi-hull or monohull enthusiasts, but are particularly well suited to catamaran sailors. The Adventure Sails are priced according to the duration and location of the voyage, and are sold by the cabin. They are not for beginners, although extensive experience is usually not necessary. ASA certification is awarded to those who choose to take the tests and pass them.
